Susu’s New Orleans Kitchen co-owned by LSU Alum, opens in Liverpool

SusuThis summer, LSU Alum, Reggie Pulliam, along with co-owner, Adam Williams, brought the taste of Louisiana to the heart of Liverpool with the opening of Susu’s New Orleans Kitchen.

As a former insurance company owner, Pulliam occasionally visited England for work. On one trip he ventured to Liverpool and fell in love with the city. Over the past four years, he and his wife, Cassie Pulliam, have frequented Liverpool often to watch his favorite soccer team, Everton.

The Creation of Susu's

About a year ago, Pulliam and his wife began tossing around the idea of opening a restaurant, noting that there was nothing like it there already, and how similar the cities of Liverpool and New Orleans are to one another.

“Different cultures created jazz in New Orleans and different cultures created Scouse in Liverpool. Both are really strong music cities. You can’t go anywhere in Liverpool without hearing music, and obviously in New Orleans it’s the same thing. And they’re obviously both sports cities as well. So, we felt that Liverpool was the perfect place to open a New Orleans Cajun restaurant,” said Pulliam. What started as an idea on a dinner napkin and a few happenstance occurrences--a viral photo taken by the Everton Twitter photographer leading them to their import/export company to Cassie’s taxi driver in Tampa being from Liverpool giving them additional connections--Susu’s officially came to life.

From Opening Day to Local Favorite

Pulliam exclaimed that the opening went “exceptionally well.”  The day was filled with music from a live jazz band and, with a line of eager diners out of the door, the restaurant was filled three times over on opening day.

“Since that day, we’ve had multiple people come back multiple times. We’ve had people bring in friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. The reception’s been overwhelmingly positive,” said Pulliam.

While their jazz sauce-covered Buffalo Wings and Austin’s Loaded Mac-N-Cheese (named after Pulliam’s five-year-old son, who loves the dish) are huge hits with diners, neither option is beating the love they have for the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.

It’s safe to say Susu’s is becoming a staple in the Liverpool community and is cementing their name for years to come.
