This year marks a major milestone for one of Baton Rouge’s most influential media companies—and one with deep Tiger ties. Guaranty Media, led by LSU alumnus Flynn Foster (1989 BACH H&SS), is celebrating 100 years of impact,  innovation, and service as Guaranty Corporation enters its second century of business.

From its earliest days to its role today as a leader in broadcasting, news, and community engagement, Guaranty’s story is inseparable from the story of Baton Rouge—and from the Tigers who have helped shape it.

A Century of Building, Evolving & Serving

A Louisiana Legacy Begins

Guaranty Bond & Finance (now known as Guaranty Corporation) and Guaranty Income LifeAfter his return from World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, George A. Foster Jr. enrolled at LSU in 1946. Insurance Company were founded on Jan. 19, 1926, by George A. Foster, Sr., fulfilling a vital community need for a Louisiana-based insurance company.  Under Foster’s leadership, Guaranty endured the collapse of the banking industry during the Great Depression, emerging stronger and firmly rooted in service.

After returning from World War II, his son George A. Foster, Jr., enrolled at LSU in 1946. He joined Guaranty in 1949, beginning a remarkable 69-year career that would shape the company’s growth, culture, and long-term vision.                                                                                                                                                                                                                             George A. Foster, Jr.

Roots in Broadcasting

Guaranty’s roots in broadcasting began in 1964, when then Guaranty President George Foster, Jr. seized a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase WAFB-TV Channel 9, Baton Rouge’s first television station. With less than 24 hours to act, Guaranty Broadcasting was born—forever changing the Capital City’s media landscape.

In 1968, Guaranty launched WAFB-FM 98.1, one of the region’s early FM stereo stations. After experimenting with several formats, the station struck gold in the 1980s as Z98, dominating Baton Rouge radio and helping define a generation of listeners.

Guaranty was the first radio company in America to broadcast all football, men’s basketball, baseball, women’s basketball, and softball games on FM stations.
Today, that Tiger connection runs even deeper, with Guaranty proudly employing several LSU alumni and former LSU student-athletes both behind the scenes and on the air. From football Saturdays to championship seasons, Guaranty is there, bringing Tiger victories into homes, cars, and tailgates across Louisiana.

Growing the Voice of Baton Rouge

In 1996, Guaranty launched a series of strategic acquisitions that expanded its footprint and influence. Today,  Guaranty Media owns and operates a diverse group of stations serving the Baton Rouge community, including:

  • Talk 107.3 FM (WBRP) – the city’s first and only full-time FM news-talk station

Together, these outlets inform, entertain, and connect thousands of listeners every day.

Flynn represents the next chapter of Guaranty’s story—one rooted in tradition, but driven by innovation, digital growth, and community impact.

A proud LSU alumnus, Flynn graduated from Louisiana State University in 1989 before embarking on a successful career in financial services. He joined the family business in 2010 and, in 2011, became the third generation to lead Guaranty as President and CEO, where he guides the company’s strategic vision while building on a legacy of community impact, innovation, and local leadership established by his grandfather and father.

In 2017, under his leadership, Guaranty expanded from radio into modern broadcasting and a digital media agency, through a strategic acquisition of Gatorworks, the launch of multimedia production platforms, and the continued growth of its radio and content portfolios. Flynn’s forward-thinking approach ensures that Guaranty remains a relevant and influential media presence in the region while advancing into new areas of technology and audience engagement. A recognized voice in Louisiana broadcasting, Flynn was named Louisiana Broadcaster of the Year in 2019.

“We are Baton Rouge’s only locally owned radio group. We know the community and we know you are the key to our success. “

- Flynn Foster, President/CEO

Flynn’s leadership extends beyond broadcasting. He has served on numerous boards and in community leadership roles, including the National Association of Broadcasters Board, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC), the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, and other civic organizations focused on education, health, and arts.  He has also helped expand Guaranty’s commitment to service through initiatives like Guaranty Gives, supporting nonprofits, education, and organizations that strengthen the Baton Rouge community. Flynn and his wife, Dana, are proud to call Baton Rouge home.
