Joyce was previously a director of Core Laboratories between 2000-2013 and director of APA Corporation from 2017-2021. He was a consultant in the energy industry from 2000-2003, providing advice to various energy companies regarding their operations, acquisitions, and dispositions.
Joyce was president of onshore pipeline operations for Coral Energy (1998-1999), a subsidiary of Shell, which was the gas and power marketing joint venture between Shell and Tejas, a natural gas pipeline company, where Joyce served as president of various operating subsidiaries from 1990-1998, when Tejas was acquired by Shell. He also served on the board of directors at Apache, an exploration and production company.
A Lifelong Commitment to LSU
Joyce is a member of the LSU Foundation Board of Directors and has served on the LSU Foundation National Board and the Society for Engineering Excellence. A generous supporter of the College of Engineering, Joyce contributed to the renovation of Patrick F. Taylor Hall and established the Joyce Leadership Fund to support current students. He also supports scholarships campus-wide through the LSU Scholarship Fund.
In 2022, Joyce was invited to deliver “The Mechanical Engineering Achievement Lecture” to share insights from his five-decade career. As part of LSU's Fierce for the Future fundraising campaign, Joyce made a leadership gift of $1 million to the College of Engineering. He has been inducted into the LSU College of Engineering Hall of Distinction.

He is married to Kay P Joyce, and they have two children.
Rene R. Joyce will be honored as a 2026 LSU Alumni Hall of Distinction inductee—one of the university’s highest honors, celebrating alumni achievement.
The LSU Alumni Hall of Distinction, presented by FMOL Health, will take place on Friday, April 17, at the Lod Cook Alumni Center.
