Professional Development at LSU
“The professional development course took my business communication and confidence to another level, something I use in my daily work life. Both experiences have shaped my relationship and community building in Baton Rouge,” Manangan said.
“Being an LSU student is more than going to class and doing your assignments,” Manangan said.
Manangan now works with the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition (BRYC), where she is a community engagement manager. In this position, she coordinates and manages events, volunteers, and community-building exercises.
Using her background in Color Guard while she was at Terrebonne High School, she was able to lead the rebuild of the Zachary High School Color Guard during her LSU studies. In less than two years, she helped grow the group from four members to 26. The team ended up winning their first title in 2024 in the Louisiana Mississippi Color Guard and Percussion Circuit, now known as the Magnolia Performing Arts Association.
“A huge win was underway all while I was wrapping up my undergraduate degree,” Manangan said. “I could not be more proud of the work we put into the sport, but most importantly, my goal was to instill confidence and kindness into each student.”
“My time at LSU allowed me to work with different teams in different settings, teaching me to adapt in all situations. Through individual and group marketing projects, I envisioned myself working at an agency or doing marketing in the public or private sector. These experiences, combined with networking and relationship building inside and outside of the classroom, led me to this role.”
Through the Barton Leadership program and LSU’s MC 2035 course, Social Media and Branding, she was able to connect with LSU Professor Joshua Howard, who coached her for her position at BRYC.
Advice for Future LSU Tigers
Manangan was able to get this position by being herself, making connections with her professors, and putting herself out there by attending local networking and community events.
Her advice for future Tigers? “Even if you go alone, the confidence you build through taking each of these steps will make your energy infectious,” Manangan said. “And as an LSU Tiger, you'll have the credits to back it up!”
