Special Guest, Special Visit

Lod Cook, seated, visits with from left, Coach Ed Ogeron, Kelly Orgeron, Johnny Butler, and LSU Alumni Association President Cliff Vannoy in the Shaquille O’Neal Lodge at The Cook Hotel.
During a busy spring visit to LSU, Lod Cook caught up with old friends and met guests at The Cook Hotel and attended the March meeting and luncheon of the LSU Alumni Association Global Board of Directors. He watched – and shook the hand of every Tiger football player –at spring practice and did the same with Lady Tigers gymnasts at a weekend meet. Cook also found time to share LSU and life memories with listeners on the Jim Engster Show and with Association staffers before he headed home to Los Angeles.

Madelene Sagström Taking Top Honors

Symetra Tour sensation and former LSU Lady Tiger Madelene Sagström.
By Matt DeVille
When you think of who is the most dominant player in pro golf, who comes to mind? Obvious names, of course, like Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. And even on the LPGA, one might immediately say Lydia Ko.
While you wouldn’t be wrong to assume it’s the world’s most talented players, there is a legitimate argument for Symetra Tour sensation and former LSU Lady Tiger Madelene Sagström. The twenty-four-year-old took the Symetra Tour by storm in her rookie season. In fourteen starts on the LPGA-owned developmental tour, Sagström won three times and logged an astounding eleven Top 10 finishes. She swept Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors and became the first player in Symetra Tour history to break the $100,000 and $150,000 marks on the money list.

Jim Phillips finds work-life balance back home
Jim Phillips had a good career in Dallas, but he was always looking east.
After graduating in 2000 from Louisiana Tech University in computer information systems, Jim wanted to work near his home in Bossier City, "but I was pretty much unable to find anything.”

Jim found a job in Dallas, where he settled in, got married and started raising a family. Dallas was nice, he said, but he missed the "community feel” of home. In 2014, IT company CSRA announced it would build and open the Integrated Technology Center in Bossier City, and Jim jumped at the opportunity.

Today, Jim is a solutions architect at CSRA and ready to move into the new ITC building, which is just two miles from his childhood home.

"Growing up as a kid here, it was mostly pastures,” Jim said. "It was hard to imagine they would build something so high-tech here, but I think this area is in the midst of fundamentally changing, with more technology jobs being available.”

More technology professionals like Jim are discovering that they can come home to Louisiana to find great software and technology jobs.
